JESUS NEVER TRIED TO SAVE ANYONE
Our title, “Jesus Never Tried To Save Anyone” may seem to be contrary to the thinking of most people. If He did not come to try to save people, why did He come? If He did not suffer and die on the tree in an effort to save people why did He go through such agony? The plain fact of the matter is that Jesus never tried to save anyone! He does not try to do anything! He is not a failure. In what He determined to accomplish He was successful. The Scriptures bear this out. Consider why the angel of the Lord told Joseph that he should name the yet unborn baby “Jesus.” His words were: “And she [Mary] shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins,” (Matthew 1:21). The name “Jesus” means “savior” or “deliverer.” He was named “Jesus” to Him because He would “save his people from their sins.” We must conclude that Jesus accomplished and is accomplishing exactly what the angel said He would do. Nowhere in the Bible do we ever read anything like “He shall try to save His people from their sins,” or “He shall save some of His people from sins.” The question arises, then, just who are those designated “his people” in our text? The Lord Jesus gave us the answer to our question in His prayer which he prayed in the garden shortly before He died. The Bible says, “These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him,” (John 17:1-2). Notice: “he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.” The words are clear. There were some people given to Jesus by the Father. Those were and are His people. They are not His people because of anything that they have done or ever will do! They are His people because God gave them to Him! Furthermore Jesus said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day,” (John 6:37-39). Not only does Jesus save His people - all those given to Him by the Father - but they all come to Him and of “all which he hath given me I should lose nothing.” Neither Jesus Christ nor His Father are failures! God is well able to save whom He has planned to save! |
