GOD AND THE LITTLE BIRDS
Does God treat His creation like a clock? Did He put it on a shelf as one would a clock and do nothing until it winds down or the batteries die? Does God only intervene in the affairs of creation in special answer to prayers? Or is God continually active in the affairs of men and nature? Jesus taught that God is continually involved and in control of even the tiniest details of all things. In teaching His disciples that God cares for them in every way He said: “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father,” (Matthew 10:29). Jesus did not say that not one sparrow falls to the ground without your father knowing about it. The Father's knowledge of all things is not under discussion and besides, what real comfort or encouragement is it just to know that God knows about all events? Jesus actually said that not one sparrow falls to the ground “without your Father!” Nothing happens: not even the slightest thing, without God being involved and in control. If you do not believe Jesus on this matter how can you love Him and claim to be a follower of His? And if God is not in control of all things how can He really be in control of anything? Both reason and our own experience teaches us that if we are not in absolute control of a thing or a situation something unforeseen will come along and block our plans. Someone or something will throw a monkey wrench in the works and our best plans come to naught. Man proposes, but God disposes. God's care for all things is a Bible truth that produces confidence in God as we go forward through life. From the moment of awakening in the morning the child of God can be assured that God is in control of his or her life that day. Whether trial, chastening, great blessing, joy, sorrow, defeat, victory, gain or loss, God for wise reasons within Himself has our day planned. Living through each day is an adventure to the child of God who walks through it knowing God is in him and with him and going before him and surrounding him – caring for him in every way. Jesus asked His disciples this question: “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Matthew 6:26). Are you not of more value that wild birds? If God cares for them; and He does, will He not look after the details of your life in such a way as to care for you? He is all wise and makes no mistakes. He is holy and good and does nothing evil or wrong. This is the God who looks after every detail in creation including the lives of His children.
