IMAGINED ERRORS IN THE BIBLE
Critics of the Bible have been trying for centuries to discredit it. They have tried to find scientific errors in the Book, but proven scientific facts are borne out by the Bible. Others among them have tried to find historical errors in the Bible, but as with science the facts of history are right in line with the Bible. What the Bible does not support are unproven and unobservable theories of wild eyed narrow minded bigots. Many who object to the Bible bring up Charles Darwin and his suppositions which have given birth to the theory of evolution. But few have read and do not know what he was writing about. Indeed, in Darwin's works, the phrase “we may well suppose” appears more than eight-hundred times. Now that's really scientific! The full title of his book commonly called “Origin of the Species” reveals his fanatical bigotry and ignorance. He titled his book, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured [sic] Races in the Struggle for Life." Darwin was a bigoted racist! He believed some races were superior to others and his book set out to prove that! The foul cesspool from which evolution poured forth is enough to cause any thinking person to doubt its truthfulness! Then there are those who attack the Bible citing what they claim are errors in the text itself. Let me give you one example of this tactic used against the Bible. Matthew 27:9,10 says: “Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.” (Judas returned the money he was paid to betray Jesus and the chief priests purchased a field from a potter which they used to bury strangers in.) Opponents to the Bible rub their hands with glee at the above text for they way it attributes words to Jeremiah the Old Testament prophet that he did not write. In fact, as they are quick to point out, similar words were written by a prophet named Zechariah. “Here's an error in the Bible,” they cry out! But not so at all! The Bible is very clear and always right: exactly right! The verse does not say that Jeremiah wrote the words quoted, but rather that he spoke them. Old Testament prophets spoke a great many things that they did not write down! All writers do the same. So how did Matthew know what Jeremiah said? His speech may have been known among the Jews of that day or the Holy Spirit may have revealed it to him, but I like to think this was one of the tidbits of truth that the Lord Jesus shared with His disciples in private moments with them.
