WHAT YOU WILL BELIEVE IN HEAVEN

By Curtis Pugh

Here on earth people believe a great many different things about God. Some think He created the world and sort of wound it up and set it aside to run without His interference. Others think God would like to do certain things – such as save everyone – but He cannot because men will not let him. A comparative few believe that God is sovereign: that is, that He has a plan and the ability to carry out that plan. In other words they believe that God is doing exactly what He planned to do, including saving those whom He wants to save.

Let us look at what is believed in Heaven and what they are going to say up there about God. Consider these words which are prophesied to be spoken in Heaven: “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created,” (Revelation 4:11). What? God is worthy to be glorified and receive praise because of what? Because He is the Creator of all things and He created them for His pleasure! God made all things for His pleasure and allows them continued existence for His pleasure – because He is pleased to do so. These are the words of those who believe in the absolute sovereignty of God in all things.

Even wicked men and women were made by God for Himself. Consider Proverbs 16:4 where this truth is written: “The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.” When the wicked shall be judged the justice and fairness of God will be displayed before men, angels and demons. God is sovereign now and was when He made His plan for this word and its population.

God's sovereignty over all creation is taught throughout the Bible. In Isaiah 46:9-10 it is clearly taught. There it is written: “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.”

God never took any created being into His planning session before He created all things and He does not consult with any man or woman today about what He is doing. Being absolutely sovereign means that God is not controlled or influenced by anyone or anything outside Himself. It means that He needs no “plan B” in case His “plan A” fails. Adam''s sin was no surprise to Him nor was yours and mine – nor those of anyone, including the sins of His elect people.

You and I may be confused and in error about God while we live down here, but if you go to Heaven you shall believe in and speak of His glorious sovereignty and rulership over all things.
